Workshop "Future" at Kjellberg Finsterwalde's with the Topic „Finsterwalde - an Attractive City to Live and Work in“
The highest score was awarded to the idea to introduce a FIWAcard. The competition judges who assigned the scores were played by the citizens' movement EFA ("One for everything"). This was the finale for the 23 students of Finsterwalde's secondary school Saengerstadtgymnasium who participated in this exciting project week. In a business game the students had the task to develop ideas of how to make the city of Finsterwalde more attractive.
The enterprises Kulturhaus Finsterwalde ("House of Culture Finsterwalde"), ZAG Die Zukunfts AG ("ZAG The Future Company") and Daumen-Hoch e.V. ("Thumps-up") which were developed during the business game were presented before company and parent representatives, the head of school, the Landtag deputies Barbara Hackenschmidt and Joerg Gampe, mayor candidates and others. They were supported by the press group Spiegel der Zukunft ("Mirror of the Future") and the agency 44M (4 for marketing).
The Daumen hoch e.V. suggested to improve use of existing cultural offers and leisure-time facilities and to contribute to their preservation. The purchase of a FIWAcard would offer discounts in all participating facilities, such as the cinema, swimming pool, restaurants or zoo. Employees of Finsterwalde's municipal administration have already indicated that they would like to help and the students are convinced that some of Finsterwalde's companies would be willing to support this idea financially.
The company Kulturhaus Finsterwalde found that a proper house of culture is missing in Finsterwalde. The students chose a location in Finsterwalde's city centre where there are currently decaying factory buildings and envisioned a multi-purpose community centre to be built there. They planned sports events, theatre performances, galleries, concerts and dances as well as restaurants in the entrance area in order to secure a colourful variety of events and to guarantee the full use of the building's capacity. They have instructed the marketing agency 44M to organise a culture festival as opening event.
The ZAG wants to enrich cultural life in Finsterwalde with good ideas and personal commitment. Citizens of all ages should work together in a club and organise events which include all generations.
Like in real life the citizens' movement EFA judged the presentations. They asked questions such as: Will this project create new jobs or preserve exisiting ones? What is the real need? What costs will be incurred? Are the projects ecologically acceptable? The judgements were collected in a score chart and resulted in the awarding of a cup.
The students received great praise from the managing director of Kjellberg Finsterwalde Plasma und Maschinen GmbH Volker Krink, the head of school Karl-Ulrich Hennicke, the Landtag deputy Eckhard Gleitsmann and the head of Finsterwalde's building authorities Frank Zimmermann. The Landtag deputy Barbara Hackenschmidt invited the students to get involved: "Play a part and contribute your ideas! Shape your own future!"
